The Story
Passion for cars and speed is a constant in the life of Fabio Montani, sports-mad businessman working in the steelworks sector.
As often happens, the roots of this unstoppable passion can be traced back to distinct infant memories: black and white images that tell the story of astonishing speed reached by cars of incredible shapes and sizes, driven by veritable speed heroes, ready to pit themselves against the laws of physics on the immaculate and whitest of surfaces: the great salt desert of Bonneville in Utah (USA).
Bonneville is a mythical site in the automotive world, without a doubt the symbolic site of speed. The place where amazing feats have taken place.
In our age, Bonneville Salt Flats is one of the very few places in the world where you can still savour real competitive motor racing, a place where you can challenge the laws of physics in a magical and surreal atmosphere whilst breathing-in some of the most lethal hydrocarbons on the planet.
After having practiced innumerable automobile disciplines with excellent results and great satisfaction, Fabio Montani decided to follow his heart, granting full expression to the emotion and the fascination that record automobiles have always transmitted to him. So, along with Mario Villa, Luca Piancastelli and Francesco Fuser, after three years of extenuating work he created Gus Gus (2011), a fantastic work of art on four wheels that, in that temple of speed, boundless and white as can be, exceeded an average speed over a mile of 483 kilometres per hour, achieving a new category record and winning a place for GUS GUS in legend as the fastest Italian car in history. But the story doesn't end here. The entire team is strongly committed to returning to the "great salt desert" to reach even higher speeds.
What is Gus Gus
“Gus Gus”(it is pronounced as it is written in Italian gùsgùs) is the nickname that Fabio’s daughter gave to him when she started to talk and has used for her father ever since.
But technically speaking what type of vehicle is it?
Gus Gus is a CAR in the strictest sense of the word. According to the official F.I.A. (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) definition a CAR is a vehicle equipped with four non-aligned wheels; two for steering and at least two designed to transmit propulsion.
At Bonneville cars are sub-divided into various classes and Gus Gus is a “Streamliner” E/FS class; an automobile powered by non-petrol sources whose propulsion is supplied by one or more piston engines with regular aspirated power (non-turbo) and maximum cylinder capacity of 4,200 c.c.
